The Police Association Pirates slipped out of first giving way to the Archambault Insurance Red Sox of Pomfret. The two teams were matched in a battle for first place in a two game series. Pomfret won game one 6-4 in a 5 inning game called for darkness. Putnam’s Josh Allard pitched 4 innings and struck out 11 batters .Noah Mailloux has been hitting the ball hard and just missed a homerun by a few inches. Allard and Brevon Harmon led the defense along with rookie standout Scott Davagian who has impressed his coach with some timely offense this year. The second game ended with the Pomfret squad winning by just two runs,10-8. Jon Luc Cournoyer was the starting pitcher and was lifted for Josh Allard, Brevon Harmon and Ryan Whitehouse. They all pitched well but the Pomfret team kept hitting and matching the Putnam boys run for run. Whitehouse had an RBI single in the 5th to tie the game and Alex Morowski made a great catch in right to keep it close. In the end the Pirates ran out of hits and could not keep up with the potent Pomfret attack.
The Putnam Vision Center Red Sox faced off against the Chase Graphics Dodgers. The first game of the series featured Putnam’s top two pitchers as the Dodger’s Jacob Guertin took the mound against Nicholas Foucault of the Red Sox. Both pitchers were stellar each striking out 8 batters and battling to a 2-2 tie into the final inning. Unfortunately Foucault reached his pitching limit and Jeremee Perez drove in the game winning run off of the relief as the Dodgers went on to win 3-2. Foucault went 2-3 and Kyle Ciquera went 3-3 with a double and a run scored for the Red Sox. The Dodgers had two double plays turned by Steven Dakai and Ryan Renshaw.
Shawn Audet started the second game of the series and the Red Sox countered with big Kyle Ciquera. Again the two teams battled all the way and eventually needed extra innings until Steven Dakai broke the tie with a single in the seventh to drive in two runs. Nicholas Foucault blasted his first homerun of the season in the 4th inning to put the Red Sox on the lead. The Dodgers chipped away with runs by Jay Hassett and Kyle Moore to tie things up. After taking the lead, the Dodgers tacked on 3 more runs by Kyle Loomis, Shawn Audet and another by Hasset to pad their lead. The Sox scored one more in the bottom of the seventh by Tristan Vanscoy before Dakai was called in to close the game striking out the final batter.
Putnam will be spending the week playing the Woodstock and Brooklyn Little League teams.
