big forward

Anthony Mayo, the 6-foot 8-inch Philadelphia native who committed in early September to Boston University for the 2010-11 season, has taken back his commitment, according to Putnam Science Academy Athletic Director Tom Espinosa. Espinosa said that Mayo contacted him early last week to say he wanted to “open up his recruiting.” In doing that, Mayo will be enrolling at Putnam Science Academy for a Post-graduate year starting this fall.
The Roman Catholic senior forward Anthony Mayo averaged 9 points, nine rebounds, and more than four blocked shots per game. It’s likely that other schools, potentially bigger ones, will be recruiting him in the upcoming season.
Some other schools that have been involved with Mayo before committing to BU were Providence, Rider, Hartford, James Madison and Quinnipiac to name a few.
Mayo, who is very long and athletic kid, could benefit a great deal from an extra year high school basketball, which in turn may help his stock tremendously.
“This is a great kid who is very talented and we are excited that he decided to be part of the Putnam Science Academy basketball program.” said Athletic Director Tom Espinosa. “I’m hoping Anthony can bring what former Mustang standout Rundell Mauge brought three years ago, tremendous shot blocking abilities and the excitement that goes along with playing above the rim.”
