Pomfret 5 Millbrook 3
Varsity baseball ended its regular season schedule May 8 with a win against Millbrook. After a long ride to Millbrook, the team took an inning to get into gear. Will Hatch scored in the second after a walk, coming home on Chris Grandi’s triple to right. Millbrook came back in the third to put two tallies on the board. Pomfret responded in the fifth with a run by Chris Alves who came home on a sacrifice fly by Connor Quinn who sported the sock-less look. Millbrook picked up a run in the bottom of the fifth to go ahead by one. In the sixth, Dave St. Lawrence reached first on an error and stole second. He scored on a hit by Chris Alves to tie the game at three. Pomfret showed determination in the final inning as Quinn reached first on an error and then stole second. Alec Harris then moved Quinn to third on a single. Harris moved to second on an uncontested steal to put two men in scoring position with one out. After a pop-up to the infield, the Griffins found themselves with two outs and anxious to bring in the go-ahead runs. Chris Grandi stepped up and delivered a triple to right which scored Quinn and Harris. Dave St. Lawrence, who pitched a brilliant game, headed to the mound to finish the game. He struck out the first two batters and walked the next man. A ground out to second baseman Chris Alves sealed the victory. St. Lawrence had 10 K’s for the day in his second complete game effort.
Boys’ Lacrosse
Pomfret 10 Suffield 6
May 12 the boys’ varsity lacrosse team put forth their best effort of the season. Jon Perekrests led the charge by taking the tough matchup with Suffield’s best attackman who has put up huge points this season. Jon held him to one goal – on a broken transition play. The close D tandem of Chris Emerson, Will Dana, and Jamie Wall also held the other Suffield attackmen to one goal on the day and no assists. The poles helped to clear to near perfection this afternoon. Will Archambault, Shane Dunphy, and Mike Stickles helped the defensive cause.
