May 24, under the lights in Killingly, the Lady Clippers played their final game of the season. Although it was a loss 10-3 the Lady Clippers finally started hitting the ball.
Megan Heaney led off the third inning with a walk. Stephanie Baumuller singled bring Heaney to third. Heany was then caught in a pickle when she somehow escaped and then scored.
In the fourth Cori Sasinowski reached on an error followed by a single by Kaylee Shippee and Dawn Cerasiello. Megan Heaney came up and hit a two-run single to make the score 9-3.
“The ladies just didn’t give up tonight,” said head coach Stephen Smith.
Spirit Souza, who was playing in her last game for Killingly, pitched a great game and dominated the last third inning for the victory.
“We had a rough start. Killingly scored five runs in the first inning due in part to six walks. Once we settled down we only gave up five more runs the rest of the way,” said Smith.
“I am so proud of all the girls this year. They have come a long way since we started back in March. I am really looking foward to next year,” said Smith.
He added, “Amanda Mastal who played in her last game as a Lady Clipper, went 0-4 but hit the ball hard and played the field brilliantly. Amanda has been a leader for us all year and will sorely be missed. Mastal will also be reconized during the championship game in June by receiving the Sportsmanship Award.
