This is the steeple on the Congregational Church of Putnam on Sept. 7, the day before it was removed by crane for renovation. The workers are shoring up the steeple with lumber. Putnam Town Crier file photos.

After the steeple was removed Sept. 9, the tower stands 'bareheaded.' The steeple is now on the ground to the right of the tower.
