Knights win
Marianapolis
Varsity Soccer
Oct. 16: The Marianapolis Golden Knights jumped all over a depleted Putnam Science Academy squad to improve their overall season record to 7-0.  The Knights jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead on goals by senior striker Ben Gustavson and left mid-fielder sophomore Nick Borowski.  Trevor Ouellet tallied twice and played exceptionally well in the midfield.  Right mid-fielder Samuel Elizondo and Gustavson scored mid-way through the second half.  Putnam Science scored on a beautiful direct kick with virtually no time left as the Marianapolis defensive wall suffered a mental lapse.  Many of the second string saw extensive action and played very well in the second half as the coaches try to build their confidence for next year’s campaign.  Coach Darman said after the game that he is pleased with the entire team’s progress to date.   The defense led by senior goalie Peter Boguszewski shut down their opponents for much of the game.  Speedy sweeper senior Greg Diaz demonstrated his incredible recovery speed time and time again.  Eric Bordua at stopper shut down the opponent’s striker and the two outside backs Hayden Yaworski and Colin Duethorn continue to defend well.  The only downside to the game was the loss of senior midfielder Zack Morin who suffered a painful toe injury that might sideline him for a week.

They took on a very good, big and strong Suffield team and played some great soccer. The boys blocked shots, made saves, took shots, made runs did all the things a team should do. The boys played Pomfret soccer and played our game. It was intense and physical. The boys had their chances. They know they do not get them back.
