The WPTP Hawks entertained the Windsor Lock Jets last weekend and the results were not good for the home teams. The D team played hard and gained experience for the next season (no score kept at this level). There was some nice plays on both sides of the ball.
The C team fought valiantly and the score was 8-0 in favor of the Jets at half time. The Jets then caused two turnovers at the beginning of the third quarter and scored two quick touchdowns on there way to a 42-0 win. The Hawks played hard but where out manned in the end.
The A team had a hard time stopping the run play of the Jets, costly mistakes and miscues led to the Jets defeating the Hawks 34-0. The Hawks are a team that seem to be at a loss to put things together. Coach Cliff Renshaw said, “This game is just a mirror of the season, We get down and then just seem to go through the motions, sometimes it seems that we play like we don’t want to be here.”
The B team Hawks played their hearts out and were leading 14-0 at the beginning of the fourth period, but seemed to run out of gas at the end and ended up falling 16-14. This was a crazy forth quarter that saw every break go the Jets' way and the Hawks could not catch a break.
This week the Hawks travel to Ellington to close out the season. For some this will be their last opportunity to play youth football.
