Named co-chairs
PUTNAM ---  Marc and Kate Cerrone of Pomfret have been named co-chairs of the community campaign for the new Regional Community YMCA.  The community campaign is set to begin in early 2011, as part of the ongoing major gifts capital campaign already underway.  “The new Regional Community YMCA will serve as a family destination for residents of the Quiet Corner,” said Marc Cerrone, M.D., community campaign co-chair. “Kate and I are dedicated to supporting this effort because as parents, we know that the life-changing experiences our children have had with the Y will stay with them throughout their lives.  We hope our friends and neighbors will join us in this important effort to deliver the benefits that the YMCA will bring to our entire community.” Included in the construction plans for the facility at Putnam’s new Technology Park is a swimming pool, which will be used for recreational and competitive swimming, as well as YMCA swimming and water safety instruction.
And as part of the YMCA’s commitment to fighting childhood obesity and encouraging the lifestyle choices that lead to healthy families, the facility will host a state-of-the-art health and wellness center, gymnasium, group exercise studio/multi purpose room, and cycling studio.  Amazing kids and child watch rooms (babysitting while in the facility), will allow adults to access YMCA services while their children are cared for in a safe on-site environment. The facility will serve residents from the towns of Putnam, Killingly, Eastford, Thompson, Brooklyn, Pomfret, Woodstock and Plainfield.
