Putnam Science Academy boy’s basketball team emerged victorious Dec. 8, topping the Hyde School Wolf Pack, 59-35, in the first meeting of the 2010-2011 season for the neighborhood rivals.
Senior guards Anthony Henry (18 points), Desmond Williams (14 points, 8 rebounds and 8 assists) and Zaquan Nelson (9 points) led PSA to a big road win in Woodstock .
Senior big man Wilson Arob added 10 points and 5 rebounds for the Mustangs.
“We came out strong and never looked back today,” said Mustangs’ coach Tom Espinosa.
“We came out and hit shots, did a great job on the glass and our defense was outstanding.”
“We are a little bit deeper and more athletic this year,” Espinosa said. “We wore them down.”
“We are a very confident team this year,” Espinosa said. “One thing we have is toughness. We don’t necessarily have that one star player who can take over a game, but we have 5-6 guys who can play. We keep getting better every day.”

Henry Leads
Putnam Science Academy built a lead, saw it dwindle and then regrouped in the waning seconds to hold off Canadian power Vanier College 53-51 in the Scholar Roundball Classic at Babson College Dec. 11.
The Mustangs led 49-40 late in the game before Vanier hit a pair of 3-pointers and canned a jump shot to tie the game up 49-49 with 56.4 seconds to play.
Freshman Tyree Robinson and senior guard Anthony Henry sealed the victory with two big baskets down the stretch to hold game on and improve to 5-1 on the season.
Henry blocked the Vanier layup attempt to tie the game up as time expired.
The Mustangs’ were led by Anthony Henry’s 21 points and 5 rebounds and Desmond Williams 19 points and 6 rebounds.
Robinson added 6 points and 7 rebounds and teammate Zaquan Nelson added 5 points and 5 assists.
PSA coach Espinosa said the team’s first half defense helped give his team a chance to build a lead and hold on to win.
