PUTNAM — With local non-profits experiencing high demand for assistance this year, Putnam Bank has donated $500 to Project Northeast, a 33-year old organization that administers to the low-income population within 10 northeast Connecticut towns.
Founded in 1978, Project Northeast is sponsored by the Roman Catholic Diocese of Norwich.
Open to all faiths, the organization gives financial assistance to help families pay for energy and heating, clothing, and other necessities.
It also uses donations to buy furniture from the Salvation Army and makes that furniture available free to those who need it.
This year, as much as in the past, the need is real, according to Father Richard Archambault, who runs the organization from offices in the basement of St. Mary’s Church, in Putnam.
Putnam Bank CEO Thomas Borner said that the bank is pleased to support the non-profit groups like Project Northeast, one of many the bank supports over the course of the year.
“We feel it is important for Putnam Bank to support non-profit groups that help make life better for those who live right here, in our communities. We particularly appreciate that all the money donated goes directly to those who need it most.”
Project Northeast uses donated space, and staff is not paid, meaning that there is no overhead. Every cent donated to the organization goes directly to deserving families.
It is not too late to help Project Northeast. Offices are at 81 Church St., Putnam. Project Northeast can also be reached by phone at (860) 928-4078.
