Four local hockey players powered the Baystate-Griffin Mite 1 Sharks youth hockey team to a championship.
Guerin Favreau of Woodstock, Colin Liscomb of Woodstock, Christopher McFadden of Putnam and Chris Green of Canterbury gave some powerful help to the Sharks in the recent tourney in the Woods hosted by the Groton (Mass.) Youth Hockey Association. They came into the tourney on a four-game winning streak.
Guerin got a hat trick in game two of tourney. Liscomb played goalie and stellar defense. McFadden scored his first career goal and  Green was MVP of tourney.
A difficult tournament the coaches talked to the players beforehand and stressed team defense, puck possession and capitalizing on their offensive opportunities. The Sharks took on the P.A.T. Mite 1 team and played a near-perfect game. Green scored early in the first period and it was on to the win with defense from Favreau, Liscomb. Green added two more goals and it was in this game that McFadden got his first Mite career goal.
In the next tourney game, the Sharks won over Lawrence Academy. The academy was winning going into the third period but Favreau finished off his hat trick with a goal in the third which gave the Sharks a two-goal lead.
The next opponent was the Acton-Boxboro Mite program A-B. Green scored in the first while Favreau and McFadden controlled play in the corners. The Sharks battled to a 6-1 win and went to the championship game.
The Sharks went up against nemesis Nashua and the teams traded shots. Strategy figured heavily into the tough match.
With a scant 10 seconds left, Green used his strength on the faceoff and the Sharks kept control of the puck as time vanished.
