Performing Arts flagship programs are free Children’s Educational Opera and Children’s Educational Symphony programs. With artistic partners, Salt Marsh Opera Company and the New Haven Symphony Orchestra, local schoolchildren are introduced to the creative artistry, discipline, beauty and story line in productions of the opera and of the orchestra. The students learn about the art form, the narrative and the music through a multi-media study guide provided to teachers. Each participating class is visited by the artists for an in-school workshop prior to the performances.
This year more than 2,000 third graders from the area will attend New Haven Symphony Orchestra’s “Bach to the Future” on April 8. In addition, more than 2,000 fifth graders will attend Salt Marsh Opera’s “Cinderella” on May 14.
P/Arts is an all-volunteer, non-profit organization governed by an active 60-person Board of Directors. Board members represent the northeastern Connecticut service area and include business, arts and civic leaders, educators, healthcare service providers, homemakers and retirees, all of whom who share a commitment to their mission.
