Joseph L. Bertorelli,
Korean war vet
PUTNAM — Joseph L. Bertorelli, 87, of Pomfret Street, died Nov. 28, 2012, in the Matulaitis Nursing Home.  He was the husband of the late Mary (Foley) Bertorelli.
Born in 1928 in Danielson, he was the son of the late Louis Sr. and Mary (Longo) Bertorelli.
Mr. Bertorelli was a 1947 graduate of LaSalette Seminary and attended UConn and Mitchell College. He was a veteran of the Korean war era and was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army in 1952.  He worked as manager of the employment office for the State of Connecticut Department of Labor and was a member of the Knights of Columbus.
He leaves his son, Mark Bertorelli (Allison) of Farmington; daughter, Ellen Redding (Preston) of Montpelier, Va.; brother Philip Bertorelli of Danielson; sister, Patricia Belade of Danielson; his sisters-in-law, Bernadette Bertorelli of Danielson and Catherine Foley of Montpelier; grandchildren, Catherine Redding, and Myles Redding.
The Mass of Christian Burial was Dec. 3 in St. Mary Church of the Visitation, with burial in St. Mary Cemetery.  Donations: Missionaries of LaSalette, 915 Maple Ave., Hartford, CT 06114-2330.  Gilman Funeral Home, 104 Church St., Putnam.

Martha Wendler
KILLINGLY — Martha “Rena” Wendler, 69, died Nov. 27, 2012, at home, after a battle with cancer. She was born in Reading, Penn., and lived in Killingly most of her life.
Rena was a registered nurse, having worked at Lawrence Memorial Hospital in New London and Regency Heights in Danielson. She will be most remembered for her wonderful sense of humor and her compassion and love of animals.
She leaves a sister, Louise Hedwig Trahan of Brooklyn; a brother, Hans Wendler of Epson, N.H.; two nieces, Deborah Sheehan, and Carol Wendler; two nephews, Robert Trahan and Donald Trahan.

Florence C. Cote,

DANIELSON — Florence C. Cote, 88 of Danielson, died Dec. 2, 2012 at home. She was the wife of the late Henry Cote. They were married Jan. 20, 1944, in Jersey City, N.J. He died in 1965.
She was born Oct. 4, 1924, in Jersey City, daughter of the late James and Cecelia (Wojciechowski) McHugh. She has made her home in Danielson since 1946, moving from Jersey City, a communicant of St. James Church, a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary #2650 and the Daughters of Isabella.  Florence worked in the cafeteria at the Killingly High School for several years, retiring in 2000. She had also worked at Deary Brothers, Arrow-Hart, Rogers Corporation and Anchor Glass. Florence loved bingo, dancing, helping others and most of all socializing.
She leaves her children: Margaret Kirby (Lynn) of Brooklyn, Richard Cote of Danielson, Patricia Derosier (Rodney) of Jewett City, Robert Cote (Jackie) of Danielson, Janice Auger of Danielson, Michelle Cline of Jersey City, Gregory Cote of Danielson, Kim Rovero (Malcom) of Thompson, Douglas Cote (Doreen) of Thompson, Kelley Cote of Rhode Island; a sister Cecelia Donovan of Danielson; 12 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a sister Theresa Smardjewski and a son-in-law William Cline.
Funeral will be at 9 a.m. Dec. 6 from the Gagnon and Costello Funeral Home, 33 Reynolds St., Danielson, followed by a Mass  of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. James, Danielson, with burial in Holy Cross Cemetery, Danielson. Calling hours are from 6 to 8 p.m. Dec. 5.

Paul Caron Sr.,

DAYVILLE — Paul Caron Sr., 72, of Country Club Road, died Dec. 2, 2012, at home, after a battle with lung cancer. He was the husband of Margaret (Fall) Caron.
 He was born July 18, 1940, in Putnam, son of the late Antonio and Albina Caron.
 Paul owned and operated the Wildwood Park Restaurant with his wife and family for 17 years. He last worked for the Town of Putnam as an operator with the Water Pollution Control Authority, retiring in 2012 after 14 years. He also was a truck driver for Crabtree and Evelyn.  He was a communicant of St. Joseph Church in Dayville, a 50-year member of the Danielson Knights of Columbus. Paul loved traveling the world and visiting the casino.
 He leaves his wife Margaret of 28 years; six daughters: Catherine Briere (Emil), Denise LaBranche (Ron), C. Marie Haggerty (Ken), Michelle Renaud (Gary), Karen-Ann Caron, Nicole Caron; a sister Elaine Arters; brother Ernest Caron; 14 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his son Paul Caron Jr. in May 2011.

Elizabeth Renners,

BROOKLYN — Elizabeth “Betty” E. Renners, 83, of Brooklyn, died Nov. 17, 2012, at home. She was the wife of the late William Renners.
She was born Jan. 19, 1929, in Washington, Penn., daughter of the late Russell and Ruth (Perrino) Morris.
Betty grew up in Washington, and made her home in Brooklyn, for the rest of her life. She enjoyed the Home Shopping Network QVC and was a loyal friend. Betty loved all animals especially her three guinea pigs, Patches, Snickers and Buttercup, and her dog Hannah.
She leaves her son, William Renners of Brooklyn; granddaughter, Stacey Moran of Norwich, two great-grandchildren, Kyleigh and Carlie Moran, her goddaughter Penny Phipps of Lisbon and her children Ty and Mae; a dear friend Janet Gunn. She was predeceased by her brother Bill Morris and her dear friend Orise Winn.

David G. Butler,

DUDLEY - David G. Butler, 75, went to be with his Lord Nov. 27, 2012, after a long battle with multiple illnesses.
Born in 1936 in New Bedford, Mass., he was son of William P. and Pauline (Harmon) Butler and lived in Natick, Mass., Belfast, Maine, Oxford, Mass., and moved to Dudley in 1970. He worked at AO from 1966 until 1998 when he retired and became an independent consultant specializing in environmental management. In addition to a BMSE from Maine Maritime Academy, he earned a bachelor’s in business administration from Clark University and an MBA from Nichols College.
Dave served as a volunteer on many boards and commissions for the Town of Dudley.
 He was also active with the Black Tavern Historical Society of Dudley, serving on its Board of Directors and seeking grant funding to complete the restoration of the Barn and its Annex. During his tenure, the Barn and Annex achieved listing on the National Registry of Historic Places.
As a member of the Evangelical Covenant Church of Woodstock, he served on mission trips and, in its Stephen Ministry Program, providing aid to those with physical, emotional and spiritual needs. Dave was also a Master Mason (AF&AM) for over 50 years.
He leaves his wife of 36 years, Priscilla A. (Gifford) Butler; a brother, William H. Butler (Helen Samson) of Georgia Shores, Vt.; three daughters: Deanne E. Lins (Tony) of Austin, Texas, Carolyn J. McMahan of Rockland, Maine, Jennifer J. Hatch (Stuart) of Newburg, Maine;  a son, Randall E. Butler of Rockland; 11 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren
