Girls’ Basketball -
Woodstock Academy 41 - Waterford 33
On the home court the Woodstock Academy Girls’ Basketball team won their second consecutive game putting their overall record to 2-4 and 2-2 in the ECC League.. The Centaurs spread the wealth with seven players scoring tonight. Leading the way for Woodstock Academy was Bridget Matsas who had 16 points and 3 rebounds. Lindsey Weigand had another outstanding game with 10 points and 7 boards. Lindsey hit two key free throws when the game was tied at 31 and another bank shot and the Centaurs never looked back. Harley Blodgett had an all-around super game with 5 points, 6 rebounds, and 5 steals. She made a key basket late to seal the win for the Centaurs. Sophomore Galina Gruder continued to show that she is one of the best 10th graders in the ECC. She had 4 points, 6 rebounds, and 3 steals. Sophomore guard Taylor Littell came in with a few minutes left in the first half due to foul trouble with Matsas and she made a big basket and then dove for a 50/50 ball and passed it to  Colleen Topliff who hit a huge basket just before the end of the first half. Those plays by Topliff and Littell gave Woodstock Academy a 7 point half time lead rather than a 3 point lead. Maryanna Leonard had a very balanced game with 1 point, 6 boards, and 3 assists. Finally, the only freshman on the varsity squad Corrinne Jones got some action and she made things happen diving for balls and playing hard. The coaching staff of Head Coach Dave Walley, Assistant Coach Randy Weigand, and JV Coach Chris Jolliff were pleased with the effort from the team and they feel the team is moving in the right direction. They feel particularly good about getting balanced scoring and tough play. They commented that the team is learning how to win.
