Arthur P. Panteleakos,
Army vet
DAYVILLE — Arthur Peter “Tim” Panteleakos, 82, died Dec. 17, 2012, at Westview Health Care Center. Arthur was born Nov. 5, 1930, in Brooklyn, the son of the late Peter and Foto (Boutselis) Panteleakos. Arthur graduated from Killingly High School in 1949 and the University of Rhode Island in 1953 with his bachelor’s of science degree.
As a 1st lieutenant in the Army, Arthur was stationed at Fort Benning, Ga., and went on to serve in Japan from 1954 through 1956.
He was married to Eileen (Harrington) Panteleakos in 1954.
Honorably discharged from the military in 1956, he was a teacher in the Killingly School system from 1957 through 1969 and went on to become a nursing home operator/administrator until his retirement in 1996. He was a sports enthusiast and competed in many sporting activities in high school and college including basketball and cross-country. Arthur was granted a scholarship to URI for cross-country and he was also a junior high and high school-level coach of basketball and track and field coach throughout his years.
Arthur was elected to the Killingly Board of Education in 1973 and presided as chairman from 1976 through 1979.
He leaves his wife, Eileen of Woodstock Valley, his son Timothy Panteleakos (Deborah) of Killingly; daughter Pamela Fillmore (James) of Pomfret; daughter Cynthia Olsen (Keith) of Dayville; son David T. Panteleakos of Woodstock Valley; son Stephen Panteleakos (Kelly) of Plainfield; grandson Justin Olsen (Abita) of Worcester; granddaughter Dana (Fillmore) Zorola (Daniel) and their son and Arthur’s great grandson Eli of Columbus, Ga.; grandson Joshua Olsen of Astoria, N.Y.; granddaughter Nicole Panteleakos of New York; grandson Tyler Panteleakos of Pomfret,; granddaughter Jeni Fillmore of Pomfret; grandsons Joel, Jordan and Jake Panteleakos of Plainfield; sister Sue Phillips of Garden Grove, Calif. Arthur was predeceased by brothers William Panteleakos and Potes Panteleakos; sisters, Stella Panteleakos, Sadie Chalifoux and Athena Kocay.

Clarence H. Gaudette,
business owner
BROOKLYN — Clarence H. Gaudette, 96 died Dec. 19, 2012, at the Pierce Memorial Baptist Home. He was the husband of Marguerite “Peggy” (Pepin) Gaudette. They were married Nov. 18, 1939, in St. James Church, Danielson and she died March 28, 1997.
He was born Nov. 9, 1916, in Brooklyn, son of Arthur and Georgianna (Goulet) Gaudette.
He attended local schools including St. James School. He worked in the textile industry, working at the former Quinebaug Mill and Powdrell and Alexander Mill. He also worked for the CCC Camps and on a WPA project. In 1941 he was employed by Electric Boat in Groton, where he was a welder. Mr. Gaudette went to work for Sears Roebuck in 1948 in Norwich as a manager. He established the Norwich Real Estate Agency, a business he operated for over 15 years and was an Arbor Homes Dealer.
In 1967 he moved to Dania, Florida and opened a home improvement company that he ran for several years. Mr. Gaudette’s final employment was working at a Public Super Market, he retired in 2007 and in 2008 he returned to Connecticut. He served with the Connecticut National Guard from 1938-1939. He was a communicant of St. James Church in Danielson, a former communicant of St. Mary Church in Norwich and Church of the Little Flower in Hollywood, Fla. Clarence enjoyed playing golf and bowling.
He leaves his children Eileen Pawlikowski (Arnold) of Hampton; Richard Gaudette (Judy) of N. Franklin; grandchildren Deborah, Diane, Eileen and three great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his siblings, Emile Gaudette, Doris Baker, Rita Gaudette, Norman Gaudette, Rudolph Gaudette, Raymond Gaudette; two grandchildren David Pawlikowski and Allison Gaudette.
The Funeral will be at 9 a.m. Dec. 28 from the Gagnon and Costello Funeral Home, 33 Reynolds St., Danielson, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. James Church, Danielson, with burial in Holy Cross Cemetery, Danielson. Mary G. Hebert
WOODSTOCK — Mary G. Hebert, 73, of County Road, died Dec. 15, 2012 at home. She was the wife of Donald A. Hebert.
She was born Dec. 24, 1938, in Southbridge, daughter of the late Sidney C. and Esther B. (Green) Hazzard. She had made her home in Woodstock all her life. Mary enjoyed working on her farm and in her gardens. For many years she cared for her father and mother. She was known to everyone as “Grandmother.”
She leaves, in addition to her husband Donald, her children Elmer Hebert and Dale Hebert; siblings: Sidney Hazzard, Ida Lamontagne, Carol Warwick, Elizabeth Cable; 14 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her daughter Robin Hebert; siblings: Earl Hazzard, Fred Hazzard, Charles Hazzard, Gloria Laflesche, Ethel Martin, Lillian Racicot, Pearl Cody.
The Funeral was Dec. 22 at Smith & Walker Funeral Home, 148 Grove St., Putnam, with burial at 11 a.m. Dec. 28 in Mt. Zion Cemetery, Webster.
Jeanette Trudeau,
former inspector
BROOKLYN — Jeanette Labrec Trudeau, 87, of Bailey Street, died Dec. 8, 2012, at the Regency Heights in Danielson. She was the wife of the late Jean Paul Trudeau. He died 2007.
She was born Nov. 19, 1927, in Putnam, daughter of the late Paul and Alexina Labrec. She worked for over 20 years at Anchor Glass Company in Dayville as an inspector. She was a communicant of St. James Church in Danielson, a member of the Killingly RSVP. Jeanette volunteered many hours knitting helmet liners for service men and infant caps for newborns at Day Kimball Hospital.
She leaves her children: Thomas H. Trudeau (Rose), Guy E. Trudeau (Gail), Peter J. Trudeau, all of Brooklyn; nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her son Paul Jean Trudeau 2004 and three brothers.
Private services will be in Holy Cross Cemetery at a later date. Gagnon and Costello Funeral Home, 33 Reynolds St., Danielson.
Celia M. Szela,

PUTNAM — Celia M. Szela, 89, of Farrows Street, died Nov. 21, 2012, at home. She was born Nov. 16, 1923, in Putnam, daughter of the late John and Maria (Krous) Szela.
Celia worked for more than 30 years at AO and several years at Linemaster Switch. She had made her home in Putnam all of her life, was a communicant of St. Joseph Church in N. Grosvenordale.
She leaves several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her siblings: Mary Minutelli, Sophie Defilippo, Stanley Szela, Mike Szela, Joe Szela.
The Funeral was private, with burial in St Mary Cemetery, Putnam. Smith & Walker Funeral Home, 148 Grove St., Putnam.
Judith Castano
WEBSTER — Judith M. (Kubaska) Castano, 66, died Dec. 18, 2012, at UMass Memorial Health Care – Memorial Campus, Worcester.
She was the wife of the late Joseph D. Castano, who died in 2008.
She was born in Ware, Mass., daughter of the late Stephen Sr. and Florence (Jefke) Kubaska and lived for many years in Thompson, recently moving to Webster. She was a medical assistant for Dr. Grabias in Webster for many years.
She leaves two sons, Anthony Castano of Thompson and Timothy Castano of Charlton; three brothers, Stephen Kubaska Jr. of Hardwick, Mass., David Kubaska of New York and Michael Kubaska of Monson; five grandchildren.
The Funeral Mass was Dec. 22 in Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, Webster. Shaw-Majercik Funeral Home, Webster.
James V. Lomuscio,
WWII vet
WEBSTER — James V. Lomuscio, 90, died Dec. 17, 2012, at UMass Memorial Health Care – University Campus, Worcester.
He was born in Boston, son of the late Vito and Antoinette (Sardano) Lomuscio and lived in Webster over 30 years.
He was a U.S. Navy WWII veteran and was a self-employed truck driver and mechanic. He worked previously as a roofer for Burgess & Blacher of Boston, and was a member of the Teamster Local #25.
He leaves his wife, Jacquline (Creasia) Lomuscio of Webster; a son, Vito J. Lomuscio of Danielson; four daughters, AnnMarie Annese of Webster, Debbie Rosebrooks of Oxford, Jacquline Desabre of Pomfret Center, Toni A. Putnam of Putnam; a brother, Richard Sardano of Toledo, Ohio; a sister, Ann Alongi of Woburn, Mass.; eight grandchildren. He was predeceased by a brother, Benjamin Lomus; sisters, Mary Smith, Frances Forciea and Agnes Mortz.
A military funeral was Dec. 20 from Shaw-Majercik Funeral Home, Webster with a Mass in St. Louis Church, Webster and burial in Calvary Cemetery, Dudley.
Irene D. Weigel,

LAFAYETTE, N.J. — Iene D. Weigel, 95, of Lafayette, formerly of Danielson, died Dec. 16, 2012. Wife of Fred Michael Weigel, they were married July 2, 1949. He died Dec. 20, 1994.
She was born Aug. 3, 1917, in N. Grosvenordale, daughter of the late Louis Phillip and Clara (Brodeur) Trudeau.
Irene was a 1936 graduate of PCA and a 1939 graduate of St. Joseph’s Hospital in Providence, and in 1940 she passed her State Boards and became a Registered Nurse. She worked as a private duty nurse in Rhode Island. She returned to Connecticut and worked in public nursing from 1942 to 1949.
In 1968, after raising her two daughters, Irene returned to nursing, working at Westview Convalescent Home in Dayville where she was promoted to a nursing supervisor. After 13 years at Westview she returned to work for the Northeast Department of Health, retiring in 1986.
She was a communicant of St. James Church in Danielson. She had made her home in Danielson since 1949, moving to New Jersey in 2007. Irene loved reading, cooking, and some travelling in later years.
She leaves her daughter Gloria Vinson (Stephen) of N. Stonington; her son in law Stephen Schoonmaker of Lafayette; nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her daughter Pauline Weigel-Schoonmaker Aug. 16, 2010; her sister Viola Trudeau Paul; her brothers Rosario Wilfred Trudeau and Orian Raymond Trudeau.
The Mass of Christian Burial was Dec. 20 at St. James Church, Danielson, with burial in Holy Cross Cemetery, Danielson. Donations: American Cancer Society. Gagnon and Costello Funeral Home, 33 Reynolds St., Danielson.
