POMFRET --- Pomfret School recently announced the recipients of the school’s deeded sports awards and other distinctions earned by varsity athletes for the fall sports season.
Harrison Chase of Pomfret, a member of the varsity soccer team, was among the thirteen seniors awarded, for their individual contributions to the team’s outstanding 12-2-1 season, the G.J. Wood Soccer Bowl. This award is given to honor Coach Grant Wood and the characteristics he tried to instill in his eleven years as varsity and junior varsity soccer coach at Pomfret School. This award is given to the player whose intensity, pride, sportsmanship and skill, both on and off the field, elevated the play of the rest of the team. Harrison was also a NEPSAC Senior Bowl Participant and received WNEPSSA All-Select Team Honorable Mention.. Harrison is a member of the Pomfret class of 2013.0.
Keith Ducharme of Quinebaug, a member of the varsity football team, received the Coaches’ Award for football.. Keith is a member of the Pomfret class of 2013.
Abigail Horst of Pomfret, a member of the varsity cross country team, was awarded the Marnie K. Keator Girls’ Cross Country Award, “which shall be given to that runner who has shown the most dedication, desire, and love of sport.” She made the NEPSAC Division III girl’s cross-country All-Star team, and was team MVP.. Abigail is a member of the Pomfret class of 2015.
Alison Horst of Pomfret, a member of the varsity soccer team, was awarded the Elizabeth Joy Dommers Soccer Award, presented to to the player showing outstanding sportsmanship, attitude and effort, and encourages team spirit and unity.. Alison is a member of the Pomfret class of 2013.
Nicholas Mazzarella of Danielson, a member of the varsity soccer team, was awarded the Brendon P. Giblin & Nicholas D. Mettler Captains Award, presented with the following description: “The longevity of a program is determined by its ability to motivate younger players to grow into the roles that graduating seniors leave behind. The Giblin/Mettler Captains Award is presented to the individual recognized by the current captains of the boys’ varsity soccer team as the player that possesses not only the skills, dedication and drive, but also the greatest ability to lead the program into the future.”. Nicholas is a member of the Pomfret class of 2016.

Taylor Sulik of No Secondary Residence, a member of the varsity football team, was awarded The Richardson Cup, presented to the football letterman whose character, sportsmanship, team play and performance in games has brought honor and distinction to himself, his team, and to Pomfret School.. Taylor is a member of the Pomfret class of 2013.
