About the Paper
The Putnam Town Crier & Northeast Ledger
The Putnam Town Crier has been the voice of Putnam and the Quiet Corner of Northeast Connecticut since 1993. For over three decades, this weekly community newspaper has covered the local news, sports, events, and stories that matter to the people who call this corner of New England home.
Published and edited by Linda Lemmon, the Town Crier has been a tireless advocate for local journalism — covering town meetings, high school sports, community events, police reports, obituaries, and the everyday stories that bind a community together.
In July 2026, the Putnam Town Crier will publish its final edition, concluding more than 30 years of continuous community coverage. This archive preserves every issue and article from 2010 through 2026 as a permanent digital record of local history.
A Farewell from the Editor
Gentle Readers: Putnam Town Crier is on the Move
After 34 years, this is the last edition of the Putnam Town Crier & Northeast Ledger in your mailbox.
Every morning I wake up and say out loud “make a record.” I am writing for those who are not born yet. Like the storyteller, but in the Native American sense — making a record for those who follow.
Key to me is: le mot juste. There can be no higher calling. Never did take a journalism class.
It’s a given that “human” will creep in and it’s a never ending challenge to knock down the bias. Vigilance.
The Putnam Town Crier & Northeast Ledger will see you over on Facebook. Our email and phone number remain: ptcrier@gmail.com 860-933-3744.
