POMFRET — Pomfret School will present authors Orville Schell ’58 and Adam Hochschild ’60 as the 2018 Lasell Visiting Alumni. Schell is an American writer, academic, and activist, well known for his works on China. Hochschild is the author of eight books, including Bury the Chains: Prophets and Rebels in the Fight to Free an Empire’s Slaves, which was a finalist for the National Book Award.
At 7:30 p.m. May 10, Schell and Hochschild will deliver a public lecture titled “Donald Trump, Vladimir Putin, and Xi Jinping: What They Mean for Our World” in Centennial Auditorium on the Pomfret campus. This event is free and open to the public, but an RSVP is required. For more information, or to reserve a seat, visit pomfret.org/lasell.
“We are very excited to have two alumni of their caliber visiting Pomfret in May,” said Director of Advancement and Communications Melissa Bellanceau, who is coordinating the visit. “Both are world-class talents. This is a wonderful opportunity for our students and faculty.”
The Lasell Visiting Alumni Program brings alumni home to Pomfret to share their time, talent, knowledge, and real-world experiences with students and faculty. Visiting alumni typically spend two or three days delivering presentations, hosting small group discussions, and engaging with students informally.
Funding for the Lasell Visiting Alumni Program is made possible through the generosity of Chester Lasell ’54. “I was heavily influenced by my education at Pomfret,” Lasell said  “With its caring faculty and its ability to cultivate a student’s creativity and independence, I learned the value of listening to and learning from others. It just seemed natural to create a program that would benefit the students in the same way.”
