WOODSTOCK — The Woodstock Academy’s Head of School, Christopher Sandford, was honored with the Outstanding Educational Leader award at Eastern Connecticut State University’s Education Awards.
The program honors the career achievement of Eastern alumni from the Department of Education and the Department of Kinesiology and Physical Education. Sandford is a 1997 graduate of Eastern.
Jeanelle Day, professor of Education and Chair of Eastern’s Education Department, said: “Chris was an obvious choice to receive the award for Outstanding Leader in Education. He brings a unique combination of education and experience from both in and out of the classroom, and he believes strongly in how much can be accomplished from creating positive relationships with faculty and students.”
After graduating from Eastern, Sandford continued his education, taught social studies, held various administrative positions, and has served as Head of School at The Woodstock Academy since December of 2013. He has seen The Academy through significant growth and development, including the introduction of the 1:1 technology program, extensive programmatic additions, and most notably, the expansion to two campuses.
“The Woodstock Academy Board of Trustees and community are extremely proud of this well-deserved honor conferred upon Chris,” said Edwin Higgins III, vice president of The Academy’s Board of Trustees. “It is reflective of the level of dedication and leadership he has committed in leading The Academy on its continued path to expanded opportunities for academic excellence for all our students.”
