PUTNAM — After four years at Quinnipiac University, Aaron Robinson is giving basketball one last go round. The former Putnam Science Academy Mustang turned Bobcat recently graduated from Quinnipiac and will play one final season at Division 1 Coppin State.
One of the first true pioneers of Putnam Science Academy, Aaron Robinson and his brother Andrew played at PSA during the 2014-2015 season and helped shape the program into a national powerhouse. During Robinson’s time at Putnam, the brothers helped the Mustangs beat top-tier teams in the country like: IMG, Hargrave, Fork Union and Notre Dame Prep to gain national notoriety among Prep Schools. “It’s hard for me to pick just one highlight at PSA, I have so many fond memories from Putnam and playing in those big games throughout the season” said Robinson.
After earning a scholarship to play at Quinnipiac, Aaron would see his play excel in his four years and graduated this past summer with a bachelor’s degree while also working as a beat reporter for the schools broadcasting program covering Lacrosse. “Earning a scholarship to Quinnipiac meant everything to me… It had always been my brother’s and my goal to play Division 1 basketball together and it had been extremely tough to accomplish over the years so to finally be able to reach that goal was extremely gratifying.” But once the season and eventually the school year came to an end, Robinson still looked to accomplish more and felt he had something to prove on the court as well.
Robinson found himself eligible for one final season and looked closer to his hometown of Washington D.C. where he came across Division 1 Coppin State in Baltimore.
“The Coppin State decision came about extremely quick, one of my close friends played under coach Juan Dixon at Maryland and still had a good relationship with him so he put us in contact and after watching my film, there was mutual interest.”
“What it eventually came down to was the opportunity to come home and play for coach Dixon and the plan that he had for me and my development… It was just a match made in heaven and something that just felt right for me from day one,” added Robinson.
With one last season ahead of him, Aaron Robinson now focus’ not only on his basketball goals but his career goals as well. “This year my main goal is to win a MEAC (Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) Championship and make it to the NCAA tournament; I know that if that happens then all the goals that I have for myself will come true.” Robinson went on to add, “Individually, I want to improve my game and be in a position to maximize my potential as an athlete.” Robinson will join the team and prepare for the final run of his collegian basketball career this fall while also earning a master’s degree, another goal of his that he plans to accomplish just like so many others. “I think that this step will prepare me to be able to be a professional and also in getting my master’s degree, it will better prepare me for life after basketball and my life once the ball stops bouncing.”
