The rain stayed away, the sun came out, and a couple of putts dropped. All-in-all, it was a pretty successful Saturday when Putnam Science Academy hosted its Second Annual Mustang Classic Golf Tournament at Raceway Golf Course.
“It was fantastic,” said PSA’s Associate Director of Admissions/Dean of Marketing, Heather Stewart. “It turned out to be a great day with the weather, and everybody was having fun out on the course. We weren’t able to do this last year because of Covid and we really missed it. It was nice to have everyone get together again.
“We couldn’t have done it without help from a lot of different people, without all of our tee and Bronze sponsors, and many donations.”
In all, around 100 golfers teed up, which was played in a best-ball format. The winning foursome of Matt Desaulnier, Ed Desaulnier, Christian Sarantopolis, and Rob Jones shot a 12-under 60. The team of Gary Rawson, Ryan Clemens, Marc Clemens, and Tom Espinosa finished in second place after going 8-under, while Tom Bobrowski, Dan Herindeen, Kevin Nicol, and Brian Musumeci combined to finish six shots off the pace and take home third-place honors at 6-under.
That first-place group was part of Gerardi Insurance, one of the event’s Bronze sponsors. Other Bronze sponsors include Colonial Health & Rehab, Westview Sports Medicine, Choice1 Graphics, and Harvard Pilgrim Health Care.
Longest drive went to: Dawn Menoche (women) and Bobby Campbell (men), and closest-to-the-pin saw Donna Bartolome (women) and Nate Brodeur (men) claiming victory.
“It was a lot of fun out there,” said Espinosa, PSA’s athletic director. “We can’t thank everyone enough for coming out to support our school and our programs.
“A lot of people told me what a good time they had, they can’t wait to do it again next year, couple stories about some long putts that dropped. I don’t know about all of those, but I know we can’t wait to do this again either.”
