PUTNAM — Charter Oak Federal Credit Union will open a new full-service branch in Putnam to better serve its growing membership there and accommodate its continuing growth across the upper reaches of Windham County.
Charter Oak’s new Putnam location, which opens at 10 a.m. July 1, will be its 13th branch in New London and Windham counties and will absorb Quiet Corner’s operations on Providence Street.
Charter Oak’s new Putnam branch at 7 Providence Pike (Route 44) is conveniently located at Exit 97 off Interstate 395 and will feature two drive-ups, a drive-up 24 hour ATM and full-branch services inside. Lobby hours will be Monday through Friday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Drive-up hours are Monday through Thursday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Friday, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday 9 a.m. until 12 noon.
“This new branch gives Charter Oak a strong new presence in an area that we hadn’t been able to fully serve – until now,” said Brian A. Orenstein, Charter Oak’s Chief Executive Officer. “And it provides strategic value to Charter Oak, given our merger with Quiet Corner Community Credit Union, Inc., and our expanding membership in the greater Putnam, Thompson and Woodstock areas,” he said.
The new Putnam site will be Charter Oak’s third full-service branch in Windham County. The credit union has Windham County branches in Willimantic and Dayville, in addition to its branches across New London County. Charter Oak also operates a branch inside Killingly High School, to help further financial literacy at the high school level.
The merger of Charter Oak and Quiet Corner, effective June 30, 2013, has received final regulatory approval from the Connecticut Department of Banking, which regulates Quiet Corner, and the National Credit Union Administration, Charter Oak’s federal regulatory agency. Quiet Corner had assets of $1.7 million as of March 31, 2013.
Audrey Lefevre, Quiet Corner’s Manager/Treasurer, will serve as Branch Supervisor for the new Putnam branch. Sonya Armstrong, who is Branch Manager for Charter Oak’s Dayville location, will also serve as Branch Manager in Putnam.
