PUTNAM --- Rainy skies could not dampen the exuberance July 1 as Charter Oak Federal Credit Union opened a new full-service branch in Stonewall Common on Rt. 44. The branch is part of Charter Oak's continuing expansion into the northern portions of Windham County.
“This new branch serves as a great launch-pad to grow our banking business throughout the ‘Quiet Corner’ area and gives us new opportunities to increase our mortgage and commercial lending there, as well,” said Brian A. Orenstein, Charter Oak’s CEO.
In addition, the Putnam branch at 7 Providence Pike will offer a host of new services for former members of the Quiet Corner Community Credit Union, Inc., which merged with Charter Oak effective June 30th. As a result of the merger, Charter Oak’s new Putnam branch has absorbed Quiet Corner’s former operations in Putnam.
David Conrad, president of the Northeastern Connecticut Chamber of Commerce, welcomed the credit union to Putnam. In reading a proclamation, Putnam Mayor Pete Place also offered best wishes. "I'm looking forward to working with you for a long time to come," he said.
State Representative Daniel Rovero said it was a joy to see new businesses opening in northeast Connecticut. "Hopefully it'll be one busy corner here," he said.
Charter Oak’s new Putnam branch is in a busy commercial and retail area and is the credit union’s 13th branch in New London and Windham counties. The Putnam branch is also Charter Oak’s third full-service location serving Windham County. The other two Windham County branches are in Willimantic and Dayville. In addition, Charter Oak operates a branch inside Killingly High School to increase financial literacy among high school students.
Audrey Lefevre, who served as the manager/treasurer of Quiet Corner Community Credit Union, is the new branch supervisor for the Putnam branch. Sonya Armstrong is the new Putnam branch manager, in addition to serving as branch manager for Charter Oak’s Dayville and Killingly locations.
The new Putnam branch includes two drive-ups as well as a 24/7 drive-up ATM. Lobby hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Drive-up hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. to noon on Saturdays.
