Dog Walk
raises money
PUTNAM — The Putnam Lions’ Dog Walk to support the NEADS “ Canines for Combat Veterans,” held Sept. 7, raised thousands. The Putnam Lions to date have raised over $2,400 this year for NEADS and over $15,000 since the event’s inception in 2009.
A wide variety of dog breeds and dog owners showed up to aid the cause. They received information from Woodstock Veterinary Clinic; sampled treats from The BowWow Bakery at Victoria Station; listened to the Frog Rock Trio and greeted Putnam Police K-9 officer Michael Termini and Putnam K-9 Aron.
Also on hand were students from the Bancroft School of Pet Massage offering free pet massages and Our Companions Rescue.
The event culminated with a one and half mile walk along the Putnam River Trail.
NEADS ( National Education for Assistance Dog Services) of Princeton, Mass., provides a wide variety of trained service dogs to veterans and others at no cost and have graduated over 55 dogs for their combat veterans program.
The Lions thanked the community for their generosity and this year’s major sponsors, Brooklyn Cares, Citizens National Bank, The BowWow Bakery at Victoria Station, Linemaster Switch, Putnam Bank and Wheelabrator Inc. as well as the Canterbury Lions Club for their support.
