POMFRET — In a continuing effort to offer some campership money to as many campers as possible, the Windham County 4-H Foundation is holding its first ever “Camper Scamper” road race/walk and Kid’s Fun run April 26. The all-volunteer members of the foundation work very hard all year to keep camp fees as low as possible for all campers who attend either day or overnight programs at the Windham-Tolland 4-H camp. In acknowledgement of the fact that many families still struggle to come up with the funds to send their children to a week of camp, campership awards are given to many families every year. These campership funds are replenished through grants and fund-raising efforts. All funds raised from this “Camper Scamper” event will go to the Jim Logee Campership Fund.
Jim Logee was a dedicated member of the Windham-Tolland 4-H camp community. He started at camp in the mid 60’s as a camper, then junior staff member, and became a staff member in the 70’s. Jim got involved in the camp program again in the early 90’s when his three daughters started attending camp. Jim is a past president of the Windham County 4-H Foundation and Chairman of the Camp Committee. Jim’s passion for children and camp has been passed down to his daughters. His daughter Heather is in her 8th year as Camp Director, Jessica is the program coordinator/ day camp coordinator and Keri is the bookkeeper. Jim died in 2007 after a short battle with cancer.
Your family is invited to join Jim’s family on April 26 for this 5 K race/walk and 1 mile kids fun run. If you register before April 1, you will receive a T-shirt. Registration until April 1 is $25, after that is $30. Pledges are greatly appreciated but not required. To register go to the camp website, www.4hcampct.org to download forms or register online. The course is mainly on paved roads except for the start/finish which is on gravel. The race will be professionally timed by Last Mile Race Management and awards will be given to the Top 3 finishers in each division.
