As the New England weather begins to break high school teams are able to get outside for practice and games on a consistent basis.  The onset of the schoolboy schedule also signals the beginning of planning for American Legion Baseball.
According to Joe Lindley, chief operating officer for the Tri-Town American Legion program, the executive committee and members of the coaching staff have been meeting throughout the winter on a regular basis in preparation for the summer baseball season.  They’re putting out the first call for interested players in order to meet Zone VI scheduling.
Coach Paul Faucher of the Tri-Town Sr. team and coach Dan Durand of the Jr. unit are ready to accept the names of players interested in trying out for the team.  The coaches have indicated that tryouts have been scheduled from 9 to 11:30 a.m. May 31 for players’ ages 13-16 and 1 to 3:30 p.m. for players 17, 18 and 19.  Individuals born on or after Jan. 1, 1995, are ineligible for American Legion Baseball.  Times for tryouts on Sunday, June 1 will be scheduled with the candidates on Saturday.  All tryout sessions are scheduled for Tourtellotte Memorial High School Field.
The Tri-Town program accepts players from Tourtellotte Memorial High School, Marianapolis Prep, Putnam High School, Woodstock Academy, Pomfret School and Ellis Tech as long as they’re residents of Putnam, Thompson, Woodstock or Eastford.  The Legion season begins immediately following the conclusion of the CIAC high school tournament.
