PUTNAM — A Putnam man was charged with animal cruelty after Putnam police officers responded to a report of someone assaulting a dog.
April 13, just after midnight, Putnam Police Officers responded to 3B Roosevelt St. after neighbors called to report that someone was assaulting a dog. Calling parties claimed hearing the dog repeatedly yelping and screeching. Officers confronted Michael Allen Jenkins, 29, Police said Jenkins had blood on his shirt and blood was spattered on the wall. They later recovered a hammer which is believed to be the weapon used.
Jenkins was arrested and charged with: Cruelty to animals, interfering with police, and disorderly conduct. Putnam Animal Control has taken possession of a Pit Bull Terrier which bleeding and in need medical attention.
