Flag Day
ceremony June 8
PUTNAM — Officers and members of Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Putnam Lodge #574 and Putnam Elks Emblem Club #209 will conduct their annual Flag Day ceremony at 1 p.m. June 8 in Rotary Park. All welcome.
The Putnam Elks and the Emblem Club will be joined at Rotary Park by members of local service organizations, the Quinebaug Valley Young Marines and the Putnam High School Band.
If you have a U.S. flag that is worn or damaged,bring it to the Putnam Elks Lodge, the Putnam Post Office, WINY Radio or to your local VFW prior to June 9. American Flags should not be buried or thrown away but can be burned during an appropriate Flag Day ceremony.
As part of the Flag Retirement Ceremony, several flags will be appropriately retired at Rotary Park. Additional flags will be retired at the Elks Lodge, located at 64 Edmond Street.
Official Flag Day is June 14.
