Special to the Putnam Town Crier
The office of Richard Blumenthal, Democratic United States Senator of Connecticut announced that the Senator has scheduled an information and fact finding tour of Putnam and surrounding towns for Aug. 12.
Sen. Blumenthal is scheduled to arrive in Putnam at WINY Radio at 2:30 p.m. where he will be greeted by Putnam Mayor Tony Falzarano and local officials. He’ll spend time with the WINY News staff live on the air discussing issues of national and local significance.
Following his radio interview, the Senator will be escorted to the site of the proposed Regional Industrial/Technical Park and Regional Community YMCA off Kennedy Drive, where he’ll be briefed on both projects and other matters of local importance. The public is invited to meet Sen. Blumenthal and weigh in on his comments.
At approximately 4 p.m. Sen. Blumenthal will then move on to Putnam Bank for a forum with local veterans, where he’ll speak and address any matters relating to the current state of affairs with veterans.
“We’re cordially inviting all veterans from northeastern Connecticut to meet with Sen. Blumenthal. This will be an opportunity for local veterans to bring questions and veterans matters of local concern to his attention,” said Thomas Borner, president and CEO of Putnam Bank.
Borner, along with Betty Hale, Rebecca Harvey, former Connecticut State Senate ProTem President Donald Williams Jr., and Ronald P. Coderre, American Legion Post #13 Commander, have joined together in hosting the Senator’s visit.
“This is an opportunity for citizens to meet Sen. Blumenthal. It will also give him a firsthand look at the changes and progress occurring in our region. We’re very pleased that he’s responded to our request to visit our area despite a very busy legislative schedule,” said Borner.
Borner and his wife Kathy will host a reception for Sen. Blumenthal at their home in Pomfret following his visit with the veterans. The reception is scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m.
