Fun Runs

THOMPSON --- The Wednesday Fun runs will be held at the West Thompson Dam through Sept. 16. The runs/walks start at 6:15. All welcome.

 

‘Touring’ Exhibit

WOODSTOCK --- Historic New England’s new exhibit “Touring New England, 1820 – 1970” opens today and runs through Oct. 15 at  Roseland Cottage, in the Carriage Barn. It explores why the region’s natural and built environments have been tourist destinations for centuries. The exhibit touches on the distinct characteristics of each New England state: Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, and Vermont.  Free.

 

Art Exhibit

POMFRET --- The Northeast Connecticut Art Guild will be presenting an  exhibit, featuring local artists, through Sept. 27 at the CT Audubon Society Center  at Pomfret.  Free.  A portion of the proceeds benefits the society. 860-928-4948

PUTNAM --- The personal work of Quinebaug Valley Community College’s Annie Joly, professor and program coordinator of visual arts, and Eric Spencer, adjunct art faculty, will be featured at the Silver Circle Art Gallery in downtown Putnam through the month of September.

Presentation

PUTNAM --- The Greater Putnam Interfaith Council in collaboration with the Daughters of the Holy Spirit in Putnam will be having a presentation and short film, "Dying to Live" and discussion about immigration reform and the increased use of corporate prisons in the U.S. at 7 p.m. at the Holy Spirit Provincial House Auditorium on Church Street. Acorn Adventure

KILLINGLY --- TLGV Ranger Marcy's Acorn Adventure, “Leaf Art & Identification by the Quinebaug!,” will be presented from 1 to 3 p.m. at Quinebaug River Rec Trail, (park by ballfields behind water treatment center on Rt. 12.) Clipper Invitational

PUTNAM --- The Putnam High School Marching Band will host its 16th Annual Clipper Invitational at 5 p.m. at the St. Marie Greenhalgh Sports Complex on Wicker Street. Twelve bands from all over New England will compete. Rain or shine. $10; $5 for seniors and students; kids under 5 admitted free.

Peace Day

PUTNAM ---  The Greater Putnam Interfaith Council will be culminating its "There is no peace without justice" series of events with a Peace Day Vigil at 7 p.m. at Rotary Park. The observance will be a candlelight vigil around the Peace Pole, and prayers, poems, or words for peace by volunteers in the audience.

Meet and Greet

KILLINGLY --- The Killingly Historical Society will hold a Meet & Greet at 1:30 p.m. with the Natchaug River Young Marines at the Killingly Historical center on Main Street. This Unit has received multiple awards and was named the best Young Marine unit out of over 400 units from across the country. They are the only Young Marine unit  invited to attend Pearl Harbor ceremonies in Hawaii.  Please come and meet with them and help them attain their fund-raising goal.
