POMFRET — Pomfret School will present Peter Bergen as the 2016 Schwartz Visiting Fellow.
Bergen is scheduled to visit the Pomfret campus Jan. 28 and 29. During his two-day stay, he is expected to share his unique perspective on geo-politics and terrorism with students, faculty, and the community.
Jan. 29 Bergen will deliver a lecture at 7 p.m. in Hard Auditorium on the Pomfret campus. This event is free and open to the public.
Bergen is a journalist, producer, and a best-selling author who serves as CNN’s national security analyst, a Vice President at New America, and a Professor of Practice at Arizona State University. His books have been translated into twenty languages and have been turned into three documentaries.
“At Pomfret, we try to approach history as a way of understanding the present,” said history teacher John Becker. “Bergen’s visit will enrich our students’ understanding of key global issues.”
Bergen is the author of several books, including United States of Jihad: Investigating America’s Homegrown Terrorists; Holy War, Inc.: Inside the Secret World of Osama bin Laden; The Longest War: The Enduring Conflict Between America and al-Qaeda; and Manhunt: The Ten-Year Search for Bin Laden From 9/11 to Abbottabad.

This speaker series is the result of the vision and generosity of Michael Schwartz ’66 and Eric Schwartz ’69. Past fellows include playwright Cheryl West, marine archaeologist Robert Ballard, author Frank McCourt, and historian David McCullough, among others.
