PUTNAM — Governor Malloy recently announced that 34 nonprofits in 26 municipalities were selected to receive a total of $15 million in grants as part of Connecticut’s Nonprofit Program.  Generations Family Health Center received $1,435,692.  These funds will be used by Generations to increase access to medical, dental, and behavioral health services with the expansion of Generations’ Putnam Health Center by 4,500 square feet from 9,100 square feet.

The current facility opened in July 2012.  This expansion will increase access to care for an additional 3,750 patients and 18,000 additional medical, dental and behavioral health visits and bring needed primary care to the rural area of Putnam and surrounding communities. 

Generations Family Health Center, Inc. is a private, not-for-profit, regional Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) that has been serving eastern Connecticut since 1984.  Generations provides a full continuum of primary health care, oral health care, behavioral health care and case management and support services for people of all ages through sites in Willimantic, Norwich, Putnam, Danielson, Putnam School Based Health Center and in the community through its mobile dental programs.  Generations is accredited by the Joint Commission and is recognized by the National Committee for Quality Assurance as a Patient Centered Medical Home.  Generations’ mission is to provide quality, compassionate and professional health care that is affordable, easily accessible and without discrimination to all members of the communities served.    During CY-2014, GFHC provided over 95,000 visits to some 22,500 patients.

According to Arvind Shaw, CEO of Generations, “Given the changes in the healthcare system this will improve accessibility in the Putnam area to primary medical, dental, behavioral health services in an underserved rural area.”
