In girls’ basketball Putnam Science Academy announces the addition of its head coach for the new women’s basketball program. Athletic Director and boy's Head Coach Tom Espinosa said the town of Putnam would like to welcome Derek Marchione, who comes to us from the Georgian Court Division 2 NCAA school where he served as the assistant coach. He is the first girls’ basketball coach in program history. He was a three-year assistant coach for Georgian Court, where he looks to bring his vision to what he wants to do with the program and is excited to get things going here at Putnam Science Academy. Espinosa addressed his welcome to coach Marchione, as he believes that Derek is a rising star in the coaching world and he cannot wait to work with him as a team and welcome him to the coaching staff at the Maple Street Campus. Derek is a native of Waterford, N.Y., where he played varsity basketball for two years. Marchione earned his bachelor’s degree in health sciences from Keene State College in 2013, and will working with the admissions at Putnam Science, the same position he was working in at his previous school, Georgian Court. We look forward to seeing what Derek will bring to the school as well as the community, said Espinosa.

Bacon Academy 8

The Killingly Redgals faced off against the Bobcats of Bacon Academy and both teams came out of the game with some hot bats, as for Killingly, Reilly Allen totaled up two doubles, an RBI, and came across to score herself. Morgan Harriott hit a triple for Killingly, who now moved to 4-4 and Kelly Ann Kessler had triple in the game as Kelly went 3-for-3 in the game scoring two runs and batted in three others for Bacon Academy as the Bobcats put three runs on the board In the last inning but came up short moving their record to 1-7.

Tourtellotte 9

Ellis Tech 7

The Tigers and the Eagles faced off in another competitive local rivalry game and was another one for the records. Thompson was led by senior Emily Vincent who finished the game with four hits in the game. Teammate Michaela Godzik also had two hits and had was responsible for three runs batted in as well. With this win for Tourtellotte, the Tigers move to 5-3 on the season, whereas the Eagles with the loss move to a .500 record at 4-4 on the year.  

Kingsford-Oxford 8

Marianapolis 0 

The score doesn’t reflect the game that was played between Kingsford-Oxford and the Lady Knights, because the Knights actually had more hits than the other team, senior Jordan Buell put a great bunt down the third base line and beat out the throw to first.  In the 6th inning some other great hits also came from senior Maddie Bodreau and junior Isabelle Boria, both reaching base with singles, However the defense was always able to catch the lead runner and were unable to produce some runs as they would ground into a couple crucial double plays. Marianapolis now moves to 1-3 on the season.
