Fun Run

THOMPSON --- The West Thompson Dam Fun Run is  on Wednesdays through Sept. 13. It will be held at the West Thompson Dam Entrance on Ravenelle Road. Start time is 6:15 p.m. Distance is 3.1 and 1.44 miles. The Fun Run or walk is free and is open to everyone. Free T-shirt once three events are completed. Details: mayer.robert @sbcglobal.net. This year’s events will be held in memory of Ryan French who died in January.

Reunion

W. THOMPSON --- "C" Company 101st Combat Engineers (Yankee Division) and "B" Company 242nd Combat Engineers (First Army), CT Army National Guard will hold a reunion starting at noon at the W. Thompson Dam. All past members and their families are welcome.

Car Cruise

PUTNAM --- The Town of Putnam’s 11th annual Car Cruise will be held from 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. around Main Street, Kennedy Drive, Union Square and Rotary Park. Rolling Burn-outs will be held at 11 near US Button. Registration for the cruise begins at 8 a.m. Free admission for spectators, show cars and motorcycles. Rain date is Aug. 20.

 

Pancake Breakfast

VOLUNTOWN --- An Aura Hall pancake breakfast will be held from 8 to 11 a.m. at Lillibridge Ave, off Rt 138. $8 adults; $3 children 12 and younger. All welcome. Benefits Aura Seura, a non profit organization that promotes the preservation of Finnish culture in America.

DANIELSON --- At 9 a.m. Tom Harney, CEO at The Center for Bone and Joint Care, will speak at the Danielson Veterans Coffeehouse at the St. John Lutheran Church about the center’s programs about health and wellness programs available at the facilities. WOODSTOCK --- Herrmann’s Royal Lipizzan Stallions, sponsored by Putnam Bank, are at Historic New England’s Roseland Cottage from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Aug. 18, from 2 to 3:30 p.m. Aug. 19 and from 2 to 3:30 p.m. Aug. 20. Fund-raiser Steeplechase

WILLIMANTIC --- The Steeple Chase Bike Tour recently opened online registration  at  www.steeplechasebiketour.org  and www.bikereg.com to athletes, adventurers and families who want to take on the winding roads. It starts at the ECSU athletic complex. Fund-raiser for  three Windham County social service agencies. These agencies shelter the homeless, offer a path to recovery for people with addiction, and provide basic needs from clothing to heat for under-resourced individuals and families.

 

Bottle Drive

CANTERBURY --- Pet Pals Northeast, a local animal welfare organization, will be collecting redeemable bottles and cans to help homeless and needy animals from noon to 4 p.m. at Canterbury Cones, Rt. 169. Sunflower Fund-raiser

POMFRET/BROOKLYN  ---  Sunflowers for Kids will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Lapsley Orchard on Rt. 169 on the Brooklyn/Pomfret line. This free event features hay rides (starting at noon), PYO apples, face painting and balloon animals.
