The Clipper boys’ soccer team played three games on the road this week and came away with three losses — a first for this team that has been a solid program and has been to the state tournament three years in a row.
Sept. 10 the Clippers went to play a very talented Lyman team and suffered a 6-0 loss in the monsoon-like weather.
Sept. 11, at Ellis Tech, the Clippers fell behind early but would bounce back with a goal from Hunter Touchette to tie up that match. The Eagles would again take the lead. Junior Jogre Portages would tie up the game to send the game into overtime. But the Eagles would not let up on the Clippers and scored three more goals to close out the game 5-2.
On Sept. 13 the Clippers closed out the week with a 1-0 loss to ECC-rival Tourtellotte. The Clippers would keep pace with the Tigers until the second half when senior Spencer Fulone fouled just before the 18 by Putnam and would chip in the direct kick to get the Tigers the lead for the remainder of the game.
The Clippers are now 0-3-1 on the early season but look to bounce back this week hosting three games: 9/17 against Windham Tech; 9/19, St.Bernards; 9/21 Plainfield. All games start @3:45 at the St.Marie-Greehalgh complex.
