PUTNAM — The Putnam Lady Clippers punched their ticket to the state tournament and ECC last week when they hit the magic number for wins — 8.
They beat Lyman Hall 70-22 behind Kaleigh Lyons netting 20 points.
The Clippers scored 30 points in the first quarter and never took the foot of the gas.
Molly Mckeon added 15 and Abby St. Martin scored 13 to round out the Clippers’ high scorers.
In a pre-game announcement by Moe Coderre the team and school thanked three-year assistant and JV coach Ashley Espinosa for her time she gave to help coach Hogan mold this solid group of players to a tournament- caliber team. Espinosa coached her last home game that night and will head to The Rhode Island State Police Academy Jan. 14 to begin her training to become a trooper for the state of Rhode Island.
Boys
Jan. 4 the boys’ basketball team traveled to Windham to play The Whippets. The boys kept it close for the first quarter 19-20 in Windham‘s favor but the Whippets would pull away and lead by 10 at the half. The Whippets finished off the Clippers 86-65.
The Clippers are now 5-4.
