PUTNAM — A local businessman was arrested Feb. 8 by members of the Putnam Police Department, New Britain Police Department and the State Police, Troop D Quality of Life Task Force, charged with providing aid to a New Britain homicide suspect.
Putnam resident Sharod Pipkin, 29, of 198 Park St. was arrested for allegedly having provided aid and assistance to New Britain homicide suspect Benjamin Morales who is a fugitive wanted for murder. The New Britain Police Department currently holds an arrest warrant for Morales for the murder of his estranged girlfriend Feb. 4.
While serving the arrest warrant, Pipkin attempted to flee and was apprehended without incident after a brief foot pursuit. Pipkin was found to be in possession of a small amount of marijuana and the vehicle he was observed operating contained handgun ammunition. Pipkin a convicted felon, is prohibited by law from possessing ammunition in Connecticut.
According to Putnam Police Chief Christopher Ferace, Pipkin was charged with first-degree hindering prosecution, interfering with an officer, criminal possession of ammunition, possession of marijuana less than ½ ounce.
