PUTNAM — More than $19,000 was raised by the annual Putnam Lions Volleyball Challenge.
The club’s top fund-raising event was March 16 and 17 and 15 teams participated. The funds benefit the 40-plus organizations to which the Putnam Lions Club donates.
These funds are distributed into our community during the club’s annual Night of Giving which is April 12 this year.
Fat Kid was the winner for Division A and Archambault took the Division B crown. March 16 hosted eight competitive teams that participated in a round robin tournament to determine division placement. Teams then competed for cash prizes. Teams competing March 16 the King Cadillac’s Volleyballers, Fat Kid, Wise Guys, Purple Cobras, Herb Your Enthusiasm, Archambault, Fierce and Wiseguys.
On March 17 the corporate divisions competed for a prize and the coveted traveling trophy.
In an exciting finish, brand new players KARL STORZ Company’s Wee Hot team won the championship. Other corporate teams that played were Putnam Bank, bankHometown, No Names, Frito Lay, Putnam High School, and Gerardi Insurance.
Tom Archambault, from Archambault Insurance Associates, was the tournament director. The Putnam High School girls’ volleyball team served as referees for the entire tournament and the Putnam Leos Club helped with set-up and break-down.
