PUTNAM — Day Kimball Hospital’s (DKH) medical director of orthopedic surgery Dr. Kevin Reagan and his colleague, orthopedic surgeon Dr. Biren Chokshi, hosted a “Meet Mako®” event – a viewing of DKH’s new Mako Robotic-Arm Assisted Technology last week.
Stryker’s Mako Robotic-Arm Assisted Technology is an innovative solution for those in need of knee or hip replacements. Using a 3D virtual model of the patient’s unique anatomy and a robotic arm, Mako helps surgeons execute a pre-determined surgical plan and perform joint replacement surgery.
At the event, staff and community members received a behind-the-scenes look at the robot as specialty trained Mako-certified surgical team members demonstrated a mock surgical plan for a knee replacement using 3D virtual modeling. Attendees also had the opportunity to step into the surgeons’ shoes and trial the robotic-arm themselves as they experienced first-hand the stability and precision the technology provides for a more accurate placement and alignment of the implant.
