Agnes Hagopian Merjian
POMFRET CENTER — Agnes (Haiganoush) Hagopian Merjian was born June 2, 1937, in the Bronx, New York, to Ludwig and Rose Hagopian –survivors of the Armenian Genocide of 1915-21.
She was educated at Roosevelt High School in the Bronx – the third public high school to open in that borough. A gifted singer, she set aside her career aspirations to support her husband, Hagop M. Merjian (of Pomfret), to whom she was married for 65 years.
She leaves her husband and her three children: Adrienne R. Merjian (Marcus Minifee), Armen H. Merjian (Sophia Bailey), and Ara H. Merjian, along with grandchildren Sofia and Jivan. Agnes was a beloved mother, friend, and mentor to so many who will miss her dearly.
