Driver cited for DUI
PUTNAM — A Putnam was charged with DUI, among other charges after a crash on Grove Street Nov. 3.
Numerous 911 calls for a car vs pole motor vehicle crash came in to dispatch around 5 p.m. Putnam Police said an off-duty Putnam Fire Department member was first on scene and requested EMS for an evaluation of the driver and for the Putnam Fire Department for debris and fluids in the roadway.
Putnam Police closed the section of Grove Street from Perry Street to King Street with the assistance of the fire department. The driver was evaluated by Putnam EMS and refused transport.
Police said a 2016 Audi A3, operated by Christopher Whitfield, 24, of Putnam, was traveling west on Grove Street at a high rate of speed, went off the roadway striking a utility pole.
Whitfield was charged with: Operating under the influence, Traveling unreasonably fast, and failure to Drive Right, according to police. All subjects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
