PUTNAM — Putnam Bank held a Birthday Breakfast Bash Jan. 17 at QVCC, marking the end of their year-long 150th anniversary celebration. Each week for the past year, the bank has chosen an employee to honor for their commitment to the bank and community, and they have made a $150 donation in their name to the charity of their choice with donations exceeding $7,500. Every donation recipient was invited to attend the breakfast.
Thomas A. Borner, president & CEO, said, “Last year, when we gave thought to how we would recognize our 150th anniversary milestone, several staff members suggested we express our thanks to the community by dedicating $150 in our employee’s names to a charity significant to their lives. Over 90 percent of our staff volunteers their time and donates personal funds to the local community. So, while it’s our anniversary, it’s not just about Putnam Bank, but about all of us and the important roles we play in helping others.”
Putnam Bank donated another $2,400 that morning. In recognition of their community outreach, the bank donated an additional $150 to each organization attendance including: Access Agency, Alzheimer’s Association, Community Kitchens, Daily Bread, Danielson Rotary Dictionary Fund, Day Kimball Hospital, Habitat for Humanity of NECT, NEPS, Northeast Department of Health: Follow the Fifty, Project Pin, QVCC Foundation, Safe Futures, St. Francis Assisi Food Pantry, TEEG, The ARC of Quinebaug Valley and the Northeast Connecticut Relay For Life.
Borner said, “While Putnam Bank is 150 years old ... and counting, we remain 100 percent local in almost every aspect of our existence. I believe that aside from our mission to be a leader among community-based banks, it is our employees’ volunteer efforts and the efforts of organizations such as yours that keep us together as a community and to a larger degree as Americans.”
