The Pomfret Senior “A” Youth Lacrosse team upped its season record to 3-0 with an 11-3 victory over Granby on April 30.
Pomfret had its usual strong start, going up 4-0 after the first quarter. Evan Cunningham and Nathan Gentile each had two goals apiece with assists going to Max Paro, Peyton Durand, Tucker Sheehan and Cunningham. The starting long-stick defense of Josh Bernier, Conor Quinn and Christian Santangini was outstanding, giving Granby limited scoring opportunities and clearing the ball effectively up the field.
In the second quarter, Pomfret would up its lead to 6-0 on goals by Gentile (assist to Durand) and Durand (assist to Cunningham). In the middle of the period, Granby would finally get on the board with two goals of its own, but a nice goal by Cunningham (assist to Sheehan) late in the period made the score 7-2 going into the half.
The third quarter was all Pomfret. Midfielders William Liscomb, Isaiah Price and Cal Wilcox consistently won face-offs, picked up ground-balls and moved the ball effectively. Pomfret would score four goals in the first four minutes of play to extend the lead to 11-2. Gentile would get two of those goals (both assisted by Durand) and Durand and Sam Paul would record the other two, both assisted by William Liscomb. Granby would get one goal to close out the period to make the score 11-3, but the damage was done.
The fourth quarter saw no scoring by either team. Pomfret goalie Carson Hadley continued his sharp play and maintained his goals against average at 3.0 while Pomfret’s goals per game average is 11.0. The team played West Hartford May 7.
