The Killingly High School golf team fresh off winning the Eastern Connecticut Conference golf title, captured the elusive Connecticut Division III golf championship with a solid team performance.  In coming out on top and winning the state title Killingly once again received solid performances from their top golfers although their usual order of finish was slightly jumbled.

Drew Aitken, who’s been Killingly’s top golfer all season, experienced a tough day shooting a seven over par on the Crestwood Park course in Watertown.  This season Aitken has been the medalist in the ECC Tournament and the Wildcat Invitational.  Aitken’s tough day gave his friend and teammate Connor Fillmore an opportunity to prove that he’s worthy of moving on in September to Central Connecticut State University.

Fillmore stepped up to the challenge and fired a three over par 75 in leading coach Kevin Marcoux golfers to their first ever school state golf title.  Fillmore’s 75 placed him third overall in the individual competition.  It also helped to give Killingly a six-stroke advantage over their annual nemesis East Catholic, which has won the title for the past two years.

Killingly finished with a team score of 310, beating East Catholic, which posted a 316.

Right behind Fillmore was Drew Aitken’s twin brother John Aitken, who tied for 4th with a score of 76, while Drew Aitken, who tied for 9th carded a 79.  Ben Lovrien and Dylan Deotte each finished with a very respectable score of 80, good for a 14th place tie.

The Aitken twins and Fillmore are graduating from Killingly in June.  The trio will continue as golf teammates as they are all headed to Central Connecticut State University.  

Kingsbury Leads Tourtellotte

to 7th-place Finish

Tom Kingsbury, who’s only been playing serious golf for two years, shot an 80 at the par 72 Fairview Farm in Harwinton, which was playing at 6,142 yards.  Kingsbury’s play lead Tourtellotte to a 7th place finish in the CIAC Division IV Championship.  The Tigers posted a team score of 344.

Kingsbury’s round of 80 tied him for 11th pace in the individual competition.  His teammate David Dalpe finished at 82, two strokes behind Kingsbury.

Roxanne Garceau Shoots 85 in Girls’ CIAC Play

Woodstock Academy’s junior golfing standout Roxanne Garceau, playing as an individual in the CIAC Girls Championship, shot a school record 85 for 18 holes.  Garceau’s 85 took place at Tashua Knolls in Trumbull, which was playing at 6,540 yards and tied her for 17th place in the individual competition.  In her initial CIAC Championship event, Garceau finished 12 strokes off the winning pace of Catherine McEvoy of Greenwich High School who posted a one over par 73.

Garceau is the reigning Eastern Connecticut Conference woman’s champion.
