Iconic barn is being restored

WOODSTOCK — The classic red barn that’s stood on the corner of Rt. 169 and Rt. 171 for 160 years is being saved by the new owner.
Mark Labonte recently purchased that corner, home to three buildings, including the red barn.
CR Premium Properties is moving down the street to the former Fern’s plaza and Labonte is looking for a renter for that white building (formerly Garden Gate) and is also looking for a tenant for the former bank building on the property.
In the meantime, rather than taking an offer to sell the old barn for “antique parts,” he is saving the barn. The structure has been raised and the old stone foundation is now replaced with new footings and a cinder block foundation. After that comes a sill and the building will be lowered again, now safe, with the wood well away from the ground. The siding is too far gone and will have to be replaced.
