Robert A. Menoche
Vietnam war vet
THOMPSON — Robert A. Menoche, 64, of Island View Drive, died April 30, 2010, in Worcester.  He was the husband of Pauline (Lepire) Menoche for 44 years. 
Born in 1945 in Putnam, he was the son of the late Albert & Bernice Gilbert Menoche.
Mr. Menoche attended St. Joseph School and Ellis Tech before entering the U.S. Navy.  He was a Vietnam Navy veteran serving two tours of duty.  He then worked as a maintenance supervisor for the Brooklyn Correctional Institution from 1973 to 1993 and then for the Webster Housing Authority until his retirement in 2008.  He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the American Legion Post 67.  An avid golfer, he ran the American Legion Golf League and played in the Thompson Lions Club Golf league.  He was a jack-of-all-trades able to fix just about anything.  He enjoyed boating, living in his lakeside home .
In addition to his wife, he leaves two daughters, Ladonna Pease (Jonathan) of Putnam, and Dawn Poirier (William) of Thompson; sister Joanne Rawson of Florida; five grandchildren, Shelbie Greene, Jaylin Greene, Halie Poirier, Abigail Poirier and Mason Pease.
The Mass of Christian Burial was May 4 in St. Joseph’s Church, N. Grosvenordale, with burial with military honors in St. Joseph Cemetery.  Donations: American Legion Scholarship Fund, PO Box  909, N. Grosvenordale, CT 06255. Valade Funeral Home, 23 Main St., N. Grosvenordale.

Mary Warren,

EASTFORD — Mary “Sally” Warren, 86, of Eastford, died April 29, 2010, at the St. Joseph Living Center in Willimantic. She was the wife of, Alfred C. Warren. They were married Jan. 14, 1944. He died May 18, 2009. Born Nov. 10, 1923 in Vian, Oklahoma, she was the daughter of the late Walter W. and Ila (Jones) Whittenburg.
Sally had made her home in Eastford most of her life, a member of the Congregational Church of Eastford. She always enjoyed her annual trip back to Oklahoma, to visit her family. She worked at American Optical as a secretary, at Buell’s Greenhouse; and as a clerk at the Eastford Post Office.
She leaves her daughter: Mary “Janie” Grube (Guy) of Eastford; four grandchildren: Holly Singleton (Tyler) of Eastford, Michael Grube (Molly) of Newington, N.H., Karen Chartier (John) of Plano, Texas, Kenneth Grube (Holly) of Eastford, and 10 great grandchildren; brother, Mickey Whittenburg of Kiln, Miss; a sister-in-law: Margaret Day of Eastford; good friends, Richard and Nancy Holzshu of Reedville, Va.

Peggy Kawa-Baker,

DANIELSON — Peggy Ann Kawa-Baker, 58, of Danielson, died unexpectedly April 24, 2010, at home. She was the wife of Douglas Baker. They were married Feb. 14, 1992. She was born Jan. 14, 1952, in Windsor,  daughter of the late Frank and Veronica Kawa.
She made her home in Danielson for the last nine years, and worked for US Security at Staples Distribution Center in Plainfield. She was a professional clown and was Ox Baker’s personal manager.
She leaves her husband Douglas; son Jarren David Wilcox of New Britain; daughter Jenny Lynn Daley of Sumter, S.C.; brothers, Frank Kawa and Fred Kawa, both of Connecticut; nine grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. She was predeceased by siblings John and Patricia.
Services were held April 30, at Gagnon and Costello Funeral Home, 33 Reynolds St., Danielson with burial in Holy Cross Cemetery, Danielson.

Edith A. Baranski,

THOMPSON — Edith A. Baranski, 61, of Quaddick Town Farm Road, died unexpectedly April 23, 2010, at home. She was the wife of Robert Baranski Jr. 
She was born May 10, 1948, in Putnam, daughter of the late Rene Romeo and Edith Theresa (Courcy) Dion.  She was a communicant of the Sacred Heart Church in Wauregan and attended the Sacred Heart School, she also attended schools in Plainfield and Griswold. She was employed by the State of Connecticut at UConn at Storrs, with the DLR, for the last 20 years. Edith enjoyed her flower gardens, NASCAR Racing # 20, bird watching. She was an avid fan of UConn women’s basketball.  She made her home in Plainfield for many years, moving to Thompson 12 years ago. 
She leaves her husband of nine years, Robert; two sons, Guy A. Pulver (Sharon) of Brooklyn and Jon L. Pulver (Laberta) of Plainfield; siblings, Mark A. Dion of Woodlawn, Tenn., Leonard W. Dion of E. Windsor, Kathleen M. St. John of Lafayette, La., Yvonne E. Morin of Putnam; five grandchildren.

Rita I. Holbrook,

PUTNAM — Rita I. Holbrook, 92, of Providence Pike, died  April 26, 2010, at the Westview Nursing Center in Dayville.
She was the wife of Charles H. Holbrook; they were married June 29, 1940.
She was born Feb. 3, 1918, in Putnam, daughter of the late William and Lodie (Jodoin) Tetreault.
She was employed for over 31 years at the American Optical Company in Southbridge, retiring in 1982.
She also worked in food service for the Putnam school system for several years, and from 1944-1946 she worked as a secretary at the Prudential Insurance Company in Providence. She was a communicant of St. Mary Church of the Visitation; a 1936 graduate of the Putnam Catholic Academy. She has made her home in Putnam most of her life, a member of the Daughters of Isabella and was a past local and State Regent, and a member of the Catholic Council.
She leaves her husband of 70 years Charles; a son Richard Holbrook (Theresa) of Putnam; grandson Kevin Holbrook of Putnam. The Mass of Christian Burial was April 30 in St. Mary Church of the Visitation, Putnam, with burial in St. Mary Cemetery. Donations: St. Mary Church of the Visitation. Joan Sabourin,

E. KILLINGLY --- Joan Louise (Barrett) Sabourin of E. Killingly died April 26, 2010 at Day Kimball Hospital. She was the wife of 48 years  of Robert E. Sabourin. She was born Nov. 29, 1942, in Hartford, daughter of the late Ervin and Esther (Morhous) Barrett.
She had made her home on Slater Hill Road. She retired from Ames Department Store after 25 years of service. She loved gardening, making puzzles, watching the Red Sox, UConn basketball and Notre Dame football.
She leaves, in addition to her husband Robert, her children, Debra J. Desmarais of E. Killingly and her significant other Mark Montigny, Donna Robinson (Michael) of Putnam, Robert E. Sabourin Jr. and his fiancée Colette LaMontagne of Putnam; grandchildren, Gregory Desmarais (Diana) (Pazul) Desmarais, Kayla (Desmarais) Church (Dominic); sister Claire Waite of Simsbury. She was predeceased by a brother Oliver (Bud) Barrett of Hampton who died in 2008. Donations: CT Audubon Society, 189 Pomfret St., Pomfret Center, CT 06259.
