PUTNAM --- April 30 the Putnam Lady Clippers played at Norwich Tech.
“This was one of our best games of the year” said coach Stephen Smith. "We had a long team meeting on Thursday talking about how the 1st half of the season went and what we need to do to improve. It looks like they were listening! We hit the ball well, we ran the bases and we played tough defense. "
Unfortunately the Lady Clippers lost 6-5 in a great game played by both teams. The Clippers were led by sophomore Megan Heaney who was 4 for 4 with four stolen bases and two runs scored. Also senior captain Amanda Masztal  and sophomore Holly Desrosiers went 3 for 4. This was a tough game to lose , said Smith. "We let this game slip right through our fingers."
The Clippers were up 5-2 going into the fifth inning when they gave up three runs. Then a lead -off triple in the sixth by Norwich Tech eventually turned into the game-winning run.
Coach Smith said he’s "very proud of the way his girls hung in there. I’m hoping that it continues through to the second half of the season."
Putnam will have a few days off to digest this loss and then they will be back at it on Tuesday against St. Bernard.
