Barbara O'Coin,

SPENCER, Mass. --- Barbara D. (Cole) O’Coin, 85, died June 20, 2010, in UMass Memorial Healthcare.
Barbara was born in Spencer the daughter of William & Anna Cole and has been a lifelong resident. She was a secretary for several years at the David Prouty Junior High School until she retired. Barbara was a member of Mary, Queen of the Rosary Church and the Spencer Garden Club. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, crafting, gardening & bird watching.
She is predeceased by her husband of 62 years, Andrew C. O’Coin in February 2008. She leaves two sons, Richard O’Coin (Martha) of Saco, Maine and Michael O’Coin of Spencer; two daughters, Gail Porter (Douglas) of Woodstock and Janet Stevens (Glen) of Spencer; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by two sisters, Marion Hodgerney and Dorothy McGrath.

Ellsworth Spink Sr.,

EASTFORD — Ellsworth Braman Spink Sr., 85, of John Perry Road, died June 21, 2010, at Matulaitis Nursing Home, Putnam. He was born Dec. 12, 1924, in Eastford, son of the late William and Ethel (Smith) Spink.
He leaves his wife of 65 years, Helen Spink; daughter, Priscilla Viens (Henry); two sons, Ellsworth Spink Jr., Peter Spink Sr. (Donna), all of Eastford; six grandchildren, Shawn Davis (Tiffany), William Spink (Julie), Eli Spink, Tammy Bocash (Chris), Jennifer Spink, Peter Spink Jr.; 10 great grandchildren. He was predeceased by a brother Harvey Spink and two sisters, Ruth Phillips and Eleanor Lawrence.
Ellsworth worked as a truck driver, working the majority of his career with King Trucking in Eastford. He also ran a small dairy farm. In his retirement he enjoyed helping his son Ellie on his farm and with his maple syrup business. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting, fishing and bird watching. Ellsworth was a life member of the Eastford Independent Fire Co. He actively served for 46 years with time spent as lieutenant and as a member of numerous committees. He helped in the construction of the fire station.

Simone Pare,

DANIELSON — Simone Cecile (Beaudoin) Pare, 87, formerly of Westfield Village, died June 23, 2010, at Matulaitis Nursing Home in Putnam. She was the wife of the late Phillip Pare. They were married Sept. 6, 1947, in St. James Church in Danielson. He died Feb. 26, 1976, after 29 years of marriage. She was born Feb. 17, 1923 in Putnam, daughter of the late Joseph and Odena (Pelletier) Beaudoin.
Simone was a lifelong resident of Danielson, a graduate of St. James Grammar School and Killingly High School. She was a long-time employee of various textile firms in Danielson area, was employed for many years for the Danco Corp. and also as a receptionist and volunteer for the Quinebaug Valley Senior Citizens Center in Brooklyn. She was a lifelong communicant of St. James Church in Danielson.
She leaves three children Phyllis (Raymond) Guimont of Guilford, Claire Pare of Plainfield, Roger Pare (Betsy) of Franklin, Mass.; five grandchildren, Laurie (Guimont) (Ron) Carroll of Durham, Scott Guimont (Angela) of Trumbull, Lisa (Guimont) Moyer (Brenden) of Needham, Mass., Jeffrey Pare of Franklin, Mass., and Kelley Pare of Franklin, Mass.; five great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her brother Maurice Beaudoin and sister Lucille (Beaudoin) Spaulding.

Fay Joan Riley,

DANIELSON — Fay Joan Riley, 72, of Danielson died June 21, 2010, at Day Kimball Hospital in Putnam. Wife of the late John F. Riley, he died in 1960. She was born Feb. 15, 1938, in Chepachet , daughter of the late Prescott and Edith (Barton) Lamphere.
She worked at Woodstock Line and was a housekeeper at the Kings Inn in Putnam. She volunteered nine years at the Stepping Stone Pre School in Dayville.
She leaves her children: Frank Riley (Doreen) of Putnam, John Riley(Marie) of Chandler, Ariz., Joseph Riley of Woodstock, Michael Riley of Lewiston, Maine, and Anna Dexter of Windham; sisters: Caroline Crabtree of Chepachet, Arlene Monahan of Chepachet, and Linda Tenneyson of Maryesta, Fla.; 10 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Melvin Tedisky,

RHODE ISLAND — Melvin Tedisky, 80, of Rhode Island, formerly of Putnam, died June 23, 2010, at the Roger Williams Medical Center. He was the husband of the late Charlotte (Ash) Tedisky. She died Jan. 8, 2000. They were married March 31, 1951. He was born Oct. 19, 192,9 in Providence, son of the late Samuel and Sarah (Rubin) Tedisky.
Melvin was a long time member of the Christ Episcopal Church in Pomfret. The church was a big part of Melvin’s life, being a part of the Vestry and singing in the choir. He had made his home in Putnam most of his life and was a lifelong New York Yankees fan.
He leaves two sons and their wives Michael and Meribeth Tedisky of Woodstock, Steven and Jessica Tedisky of Groton; daughter Karen (John) Ciccone of Chelmsford, Mass.; sister Evelyn Pastor of California; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his daughter Lisa Tedisky who died Dec. 16, 2009.

Joseph Donovan, Sr.,

QUINEBAUG --- Chief Joseph Donovan Sr., 70, of Donovan Drive, died June 23, 2010, at home after a short illness.
He was born in Quinebaug, the son of the late Mary Donovan Broughton and lived there all his life. Joseph worked for the past 42 years in maintenance and repair at Xtra Mart Corp in N. Grosvenordale
He was a dedicated member of the Quinebaug Volunteer Fire Department serving for over 50 years and holding the position as chief of the Department for the past 23 years. Joseph was instrumental in obtaining a grant to construct the new fire station and his dream was realized in 2008 when the new Quinebaug Fire Station was completed. Joseph founded the annual Thanksgiving Dinner 15 years ago and took great joy in helping others and bringing the community together.
He leaves his wife of 49 years, Mary Jean (Willis) Donovan; three sons: Joseph Donovan Jr. and James Donovan, both of Quinebaug, Jon Donovan (Kristie) of Fabyan; two daughters: Allison Ratliff (Randy) of N. Grosvenordale and Jennifer Pittman (Chris) of Eastford; eight grandchildren; two brothers: Donald Donovan of N. Grosvenordale and Ronald Donovan of Bridgeport; one sister Beverly McDonald of Quinebaug. He was predeceased by his brother, Edward Donovan and sister Constance Charette.
The Funeral is at 10 a.m. June 30 at the Quinebaug Volunteer Fire Department, with burial at the W. Thompson Cemetery. Donations: Quinebaug Volunteer Fire Department, P.O. Box 144, Quinebaug, CT 06262-0144 to establish an annual scholarship in his honor. Bartel Funeral Home & Chapel, Dudley.
Joan R. Lowe,

DANIELSON — Joan (Richardson) Lowe, 86, of Wheatley Extension, died June 21, 2010, in Day Kimball Hospital. She was the wife of the late Walter P. Lowe. Born in 1924 in Providence, she was the daughter of the late John and Louisa (Berger) Richardson.
Mrs. Lowe worked for 22 years as a home health aide for Day Kimball Home Health Care. She enjoyed going to Maple Courts bingo every Tuesday and Thursday, and yard sales. She was a devoted cat lover who took in strays and once had 22 cats.
Joan leaves her sons, John Lowe and his companion Linda Hery of Danielson, and Walter Lowe of Arizona; daughter in-law Sheila Lowe and her companion Tom Skinner of White Mountains, N.H.; seven grandchildren, Caitlyn Lowe, Alisa Lowe, Eric Lowe, Tammy St. Martin, Ronald Scott, Jr., Sherry Lowe, Tracy Lowe and Chad Badger; and her great-grandchildren, Ashley Scott, Sebastian Scott, and Logan St. Martin. She was predeceased by her son, Robert Lowe; sisters, Margaret Marsh, Sarah Phillips, and Barbara Cole.
The graveside service was June 24 in the Phillips Cemetery, Foster, R.I. Gilman Funeral Home, 104 Church St., Putnam
William O'Day,
Vietnam war vet
WORCESTER --- William G. O’Day died June 23, 2010, at UMass Medical Center in Worcester. Born in Worcester the son of William L. and Alice (Carey) O’Day, Bill was educated in both public and parochial schools; having graduated from St. Peter’s Central Catholic High School he attended Worcester State College. He served in the U.S. Army for three years including a one-year tour of duty in Vietnam. He married Marilyn Seifring in 1969 and moved to Connecticut. An accomplished golfer, he was a member of Cohasse County Club and among his other interests were antique collecting and restoration, woodcrafting, music, auto racing, and whistling.
He leaves his wife, Marilyn of Woodstock; brother, Francis of Worcester; sister, Denise Barber of Napa.
