The 11&12 year old Putnam All Star team sent 17 batters to the plate in the first inning and scored 11 times in a rout of the Pomfret/Eastford All Stars June 29.
Jacob Guertin pitched for Putnam throwing a two-hitter and blasted a grand slam home run in his second at bat of the first inning. Guertin was dominant on the mound with an electric fastball and a change-up that had batters coming out of their shoes.
Nicholas Foucault went 2-3 with a double, Kyle Ciquera may have knocked a ball out of round with a blistering double to the wall. Putnam’s DH, Jon Luc Cournoyer went 2-2 with a wall ball double that scored two runs.
Shawn Audet and Brevon Harmon worked their defensive magic at middle infield keeping Pomfret runners off of the bags all day.
Audet turned a beauty of a double play, 1-6-3, to erase the only runner of the third inning. Pomfret managed a run in the second inning off an error by the Putnam left fielder and an RBI single by Alex Aleczeck. The final score was 11-1, in a four-inning mercy rule game.
Putnam is now 2-0 in All Star play and will be traveled to Lebanon on July 6 and Norwich July 8.
Pomfret drops to 1-1 and travels to Lebanon on July 8.
