After a stunning 11-1 defeat at the hands of Putnam earlier in the week , the Pomfret Eastford All Stars regrouped July 1 when Woodstock came to town.  In the top of the first inning Woodstock led off with a boom as they loaded the bases with no outs and chipped away to score three runs.  In the bottom of the first Ryan Black led off with a base on balls followed by a Jack Archambault single.  Heads up base running by Black  took him to third base where Conor Hanlon drove him in with a fielders' choice.
In the second inning the flood gates opened as Kyle Lingard walked and Alec Aleczek and Nick Kowalchuck followed with back to back singles to load the bases. After a pair of strike Archambault walked to force in a run and Doug Gerrity reached on an error to tie the game.  Hanlon took advantage of an opportunity to help himself with a triple to right driving in 2 runs.  Dan Whittenburg followed with a home run over the fence in right center as Pomfret Eastford took a solid 8-3 lead.
After the shaky defensive first inning the PELL team settled down and played solid defense blanking Woodstock the rest of the way. Max Mullin stopped a potential Woodstock rally catching a sinking line drive  followed by a pair of strike outs.  PELL added two more runs in the bottom of the 4th off a double by Hanlon and  a bases loaded walk scored the 10th run of the game.
Dan Whittenburg came in as a relief pitcher in the top of the 5th with one man on and mowed down the three batters he faced. In the bottom of the fifth inning Jack Archambault did what Jack does best and hammered another base hit, his fifth of the All Star series.
Doug Gerrity followed with another single and Hanlon picked up his fifth RBI of the game with a fielder's choice scoring Archambault. Kyle Lingard singled and Connor Bavosi closed the game with a bases loaded single to score the 13th run for PELL as the game was called on the 10-run mercy rule.
This week Pomfret travels across the district to Lebanon where a victory will guarantee them a spot in the pool play finals. As tough as the June 29 loss to Putnam was, the boys are hoping that they will get a rematch against Putnam  in the pool finals.
After a season of splitting two game series against Putnam it is just what the Little League gods could provide in this wonderful season.
